As a first step, we have tried to create a form of globe that consisted of hexagons. Then, we tended toward the image of soccer ball (trancated icosahedron) because it is geometrically impossible for hexagons to compose a globe. However, 32 surface (trancatedicosahedron) for a lantern with 1m diameter would have been few in number and units would have been so big.
After that circumstances, we continued our research and found out goldbergpolyhedron geometry which constitutes the basis of our project. 3 kind of hexagons with different dimensions and one pentagon come together and composed in our system. Hexagons are not regular and have different side lengths so that we could create 192 surfaces and catch the form of a globe.
After we solve the geometrical problems, we have created an intermediary unit called "lens" which aims to prevent the lights to come directly to the eyes. Also we have improved our lens system with changing the places of lenses on the unit so that our latern has been deepened.
